Holdem Hands and the Blinds

What's a good way of playing holdem hands when we find ourselves in the blinds? Winning in Holdem poker is a good play of hands in relation to one's position from the button at the table.

Once we are in the blinds (blind, small blind, and big blind), we are positioned strategically for a win—like we have already placed our investments on a business, but we wait for the business to really make money. When in the blinds, it is not enough for us to see money in the pot, we must also realize that we are not in the position to call raises and that as far as hands are concerned, other players are often better positioned.

If every player on turn folds and the button raises three times the amount of the big blind, our best option probably is to fold if we hold a suited 7 and 8. Sure, it may just cost us a few more to call, but don't forget that we are going to have to act first. When just one player remains in, as in this case, suited connectors won't do us much good. So to save us all that waste, we fold to lessen the loss.

Again, if we have a situation where 5 players limped in, with the button raising by three times what is already in the big blind, this is a different ball game. If we chose to call such bet, probably 4 to 5 other players behind us would join in the fun and give meaning to our suited connectors 7 and 8. Though continuing to regard our position here, we take comfort in the thought of getting good chances to settle with the hand we have.

Such is the general scene of what no-limit Holdem played for low stakes is all about. It looks easier to play. But with higher stakes or limits we should consider having a more rigid play. With stranger starting Holdem hands a post flop poker play may be more to our liking, and being comfortable with this, rake in more winnings.
